Baked salmon in foil with honey lime sauce

Baked salmon in foil is a super easy dinner to prepare in under 20 minutes.

The fun part is that the meal tastes like you've been slaving in the kitchen for an hour at least. It's just so delicious, how could it take so little time?

The trick is the foil.

You literally place your salmon filet on the foil, pour your butter-honey-lime-garlic sauce over it, close the foil up around the salmon, and place it in the oven to cook for 18 minutes. Done.

Oftentimes, my husband arrives home an hour after we have dinner, so keeping fish warm and not dried out is a little tricky. Not with this recipe. The foil keeps the salmon so moist. I just keep it in the oven set to warm, and it works perfectly.

Sprinkling freshly chopped cilantro on top of the filet after it is done baking is a nice touch and adds a fresh pop of flavor, but it's optional.

Tips for this honey lime garlic butter salmon in foil dinner:

  • Do not forget to broil for 5 minutes. The crispiness on the top of the salmon really adds to the flavor and texture of this dish.

How to Bake Salmon in Foil Pouch

Place a large piece of aluminum foil on a baking sheet. Put the salmon filet in the center of the foil. Pour sauce over the filet. Wrap foil around salmon in a tent fashion, leaving some space at the top, and closing up the pouch by pinching the foil together until its fully sealed. Cooking fish in this manner keeps the fish moist while baking at high temperatures in the oven.

How long to bake salmon in foil at 350

We baked our 1 ½ pound salmon filet for 18 minutes. Depending on the size of your fish and your oven, this time will vary. The fish should be flaky when you pierce it with a fork. Typical time to cook this size of salmon filet would be 15-20 minutes.

Everyone loved this salmon in my house. We eat salmon at least twice a week, so I've been trying to come up with more healthy baked salmon recipes.

This is the newest addition to our approved salmon dinners.

Hope you enjoy it too.

Course Dinner
Keyword salmon
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 18 minutes
Servings 7

Ingredients

  • 1 large salmon filet
  • sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 limes (1 for slices and 2 to squeeze for fresh juice)
  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • ⅓ cup chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Place salmon filet on large piece of aluminum foil (enough to wrap around salmon and form a closed tent). Season with salt and pepper. Place 4-5 lime slices under the filet.

  3. Mix butter, juice from 2 limes, honey and garlic.

  4. Pour butter sauce evenly over filet.

  5. Close up aluminum foil tent around salmon.

  6. Place on baking sheet.

  7. Cook for 15-20 minutes, depending on the size of filet and your oven. 18 minutes was perfect for us with our 1.5 lb salmon filet. When you poke the filet with a fork and the meat is flaky, you're ready to broil.

  8. Open the top of the aluminum foil tent and broil for 5 minutes to create a nice crispy top.

  9. Sprinkle top of filet with chopped cilantro. Serve and enjoy.
