The most delicious marinated tofu ever! After you marinate your cubed tofu pieces in a mixture of maple syrup, soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic, you will saute the tofu in hot oil until they are crispy. SO amazing.

If you enjoy ideas for tofu dishes, you might like my Garlic Sesame Tofu Stir Fry.

We love this CRISPY Tofu Marinade dish so much.

I mentioned with my Garlic Sesame Tofu Stir Fry recipe that I used to not enjoy tofu because of its texture being smooshy. So glad I've figured out how to make it crispy because tofu really is quite delicious when cooked properly.

The tofu cubes do such a great job of absorbing the flavors in this marinade. Its wonderful served with a veggie side dish or rice.

The key to crispy tofu is:

  1. Make sure to properly press your extra firm tofu. I prefer pressing in a tofu press and love this one.
  2. Turn your deep dish non-stick skillet up to high
  3. Add the canola oil and cook until bubbling
  4. Place the marinated tofu into skillet with large non-stick spatula.
  5. Cook the tofu cubes for at least 5 minutes before turning over. You create a much crispier texture if you let it cook uninterrupted for at least 5 minutes.
  6. Turn cubes over with spatula carefully and cook the other side.
  7. You will see the browning start to occur on the cubes. Move the cubes around until they look crispy enough for you.

You can also throw a handful of freshly chopped spring onions on top of your crispy tofu for a little more texture. So yummy.

I hope you love this marinated tofu dish as much as my family did! This will most likely be on heavy rotation for us (weekly). So, so good....and healthy too! Gotta love it.

Prep Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Servings 5

Ingredients

  • 1 16 oz extra firm tofu
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp chopped ginger
  • 2 tbsp canola oil

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu block one of two ways:

    1. Use a press (see my favorite press in the notes.) Press for 30 minutes.

    2. Place tofu block on a plate covered with a paper towel, place a baking sheet on top, then a heavy skillet on top of the baking sheet. Press for 30 minutes.

  2. Create marinade: In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, sesame oil, garlic and ginger.

  3. Place tofu pieces in a 13x9 pan and cover with marinade. Cover with plastic wrap and place in fridge for at least an hour, or overnight for even more flavor. I doubled the above recipe with two tofu blocks, so the 13x9 dish worked well for me. You can use 8x8 if you're using one tofu block.

  4. Cook Tofu: Pour 2-3 tbsp of canola oil in large deep skillet turn to high heat. Place tofu pieces in skillet and brown on one side. Very important: Let the pieces cook for 5 minutes, without moving them. With a large spatula, turn tofu pieces over to brown other side for another 5 minutes. Pour rest of marinade on tofu. Serve tofu over fluffy rice or salad. We served our's with shredded carrots and sprouts on the side - delicious. Enjoy!
