Thai basil chicken in a white bowl over rice.

I have now made this thai basil chicken dish two times in the last three days.

It is that good.  And, it is so easy.  Love, love.

The combination of oyster sauce with the sweet chili sauce and soy sauce is so yummy and so perfect with the browned chicken thigh fillets and fresh basil and spring onions.

Served over fluffy jasmine rice....yum.

Thai Basil Chicken is a surprisingly delicious dinner that takes mere minutes to whip up.

Have a mentioned how amazing the smell of fresh basil is while cooking in the kitchen?  Its so good.

This is such a yummy dinner to enjoy amongst all of the many sweets of December.  You can make this dish as spicy or mild as you'd like.

White bowl with chicken and basil stir fry.

Chicken and basil cooking in skillet.

The recipe I'm sharing is how we made it, and I'd say it mild with a touch of spice.  All three of my kids loved this dish.  I asked my 10 year old what I could do to make this dinner better.  His response was "Make more of it".  🙂

Tips for this easy thai basil chicken:

  1.  You can change this into a thai basil ground chicken dish, by substituting the chopped chicken with ground chicken and following the same steps in the recipe.
  2. Remember to stir the fresh basil in at the end, as it cooks quickly.
  3. Do not skip the oyster sauce.  It thickens up the sauce and lends a creamy, flavorful taste to this delicious dish.
  4. You can make this a spicy basil thai chicken recipe by adding a Thai chili, deseeded and chopped.
  5. You can make this in a wok or skillet.  I love this dish so much, I think I'm going to buy a wok soon. It cooks up just fine in a skillet, but the depth of the wok would help with oil splattering and cooking faster.

Hope you enjoy this as much as we did.

What are your thoughts on doubling this up?

I have doubled this recipe several times and it works well, but you need to make sure to use a large skillet (at least 12 inches). In order to properly brown the chicken, you will need more space with twice the chicken pieces. Browning the chicken about 5 minutes on each side is an important step in this recipe. Hope you enjoy it!

I made this the other night and it is delicious! Absolutely loved it. We will be adding this to our repertoire of dinners. We might try adding cashews to it too.
