Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a double boiler, mix sugar, flour and salt in the top of double boiler.
Stir in 3 egg yolks and milk.
Cook, uncovered, over boiling water. Stir constantly, until pudding is thickened, about 10-12 minutes.
Reserve about 10 wafers for garnish.
Layer a small amount of pudding at bottom of 1 ½ quart baking dish, the layer nilla wafers, then banana slices, repeating for 3 layers, ending with custard.
Bake Banana Pudding in top half of oven for 15-20 minutes, until the top of meringue is slightly browned.
Remove from oven and cool slightly. Garnish with reserved wafers and banana slices. Enjoy!
Note: Since you need to end the layering with pudding, you will need 4 layers of pudding and 3 layers of wafers and banana slices. So, plan accordingly, when you cover the bottom of the baking dish with the first round of pudding.
