  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ cup crisco shortening
  • ½ cup ice cold water (add water in by tbsp - could be a little more or less)

Fruit Filling

  • 2 cups fresh blackberries
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  2. In a medium bowl, mix the flour and salt together.

  3. Add the shortening to the dry ingredients and cut in with a fork, working into the dry ingredients, until the dough is in pea-sized pieces.

  4. Add cold water to the dough, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough begins to come together, when you pat it into a ball. It should be a little dry.

  5. Add dough ball to a floured surface and roll out to a ¼ inch thick piece of dough.

  6. Mix the berries, sugar and flour gently together in a small bowl.

  7. Cut the dough to an 8x8 piece and place it on bottom of lightly greased 8x8 baking pan.

  8. Pour berry mixture on top of the dough. Cut the remaining dough into 8-inch pieces and place in criss-cross pattern on top of berries. (4-inch pieces put together are fine too - does not have to be perfect). Sprinkle the top of the criss-cross dough with sugar.

  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes in preheated oven.

  10. Remove from oven and eat immediately, or cool and enjoy later.

  11. Enjoy this amazingly delicious cobbler!

Recipe Notes

  1. You can use fresh or frozen blackberries.
  2. Feel free to use raspberries instead of blackberries.
  3. For the cutting of the dough, do not worry about the cuts being perfect.  I placed small strips of dough together to form the criss cross, and it was still delicious.
