These cream cheese mints are SO fun!!

There are only four ingredients in this delicious recipe, plus gel food coloring, if you'd like to make assorted colors.

If you're looking for a recipe to make cream cheese mints for a baby shower or for favors at a dinner party or holiday event, you've come to the right place.

When my crew sampled these mints, they all reacted with "these are so good".  The fresh mint taste with the soft mint texture takes you by surprise.

They have the taste of those yummy dinner mints that are typically pastel colored and show up in a candy cup mixed with nuts on the table at a dinner party.  However, these are buttery and soft.  Like the consistency of a piece of whipped fudge.

Because of the rich buttery flavor, these could really also be called homemade butter mints.

What types of Cream Cheese Mint Flavors would you suggest?

The flavor of the mints will depend on the extract you choose.  I used peppermint and they turned out divine.  You could also use spearmint, orange, lemon, or almond to name a few.

How do I color Cream Cheese Mints?

I used the Wilton gel colors.  I place a toothpick in the gel color container, and scoop out a little to put in the cream cheese dough, then follow up with stirring until color is consistent.  These are the same gel colors I use when making fondant.  You can learn more about how to use gel colors in my How to Color Fondant post.

Do Cream Cheese Mints need to be refrigerated?

Yes!!  I left my mints out for 5 hours after making them, thinking they would harden, but they were still soft.  Once I put them in the refrigerator, within an hour, they had hardened and thickened up to the perfect consistency.

What do Cream Cheese Mints taste like?

In a word, more buttery than other mints.  They are a very smooth, melt in your mouth, texture.

I hope you enjoy these as much as we did.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz cream cheese block (full fat), softened
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract (or another flavor)
  • gel food coloring
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar (to roll mint dough in)

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer, on medium high speed, blend cream cheese and butter until smooth.  Turn mixer to low and add in 1 cup of powdered sugar.  After incorporating sugar, slowly turn to medium high speed and blend until smooth.

  2. Add the peppermint extract to the cream cheese / butter / sugar mixture, and mix, until combined.

  3. On low speed, slowly add in the remaining 2 ½ cups of powdered sugar, increasing speed to medium as the sugar incorporates.  Blend well.

  4. Scoop the mint dough out of the mixer and divide into 4 (number of colors) bowls, for each of the colors you are creating.  Cover each bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.

  5. At the end of 2 hours, the dough should have hardened and will be easier to form into mints.

  6. Dust a parchment paper lined baking sheet with ¼ cup powdered sugar.  PInch a teaspoon or tablespoon size amount of dough from bowl, and roll dough ball between hands.  Roll mint dough ball in powdered sugar and place on baking sheet.

  7. With a fork, press down on mint dough ball to flatten, or use the bottom of a glass if you prefer to not have the fork marks.

  8. Let mints sit for two hours at room temperature to settle, then place the baking sheet in refrigerator, with plastic wrap covering tray lightly.  Keep in fridge overnight, until hardened enough where the mint keeps its shape, but is still soft in the middle.  Serve and Enjoy!!
